Niger is the world’s third largest Uranium producer and a rising demand for the radioactive metal is drawing prospectors to the country.

British, Canadian, Indian and other uranium producers have recently received 23 mining permits in the Arlit and Tchirozerine regions of the Sahara Desert.

Successful operations will be nationalized with the government, a uranium producer, holding a 40 percent stake.
